Meditation 2

Matthew 11:28 – 30
Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Come unto me
• The Lord is inviting us, calling us, entreating us to “Come”.
• Come unto Him
• A very specific place
• To Him.
• Yet many of us do not go to Him.
• we will seek help everywhere else first
• then as a last resort, we will come to Him
• Why?
• Are we mistrusting? Are we fearful? Are we ignorant?
• Are we misguided? Are we self-dependant?
• Why do we not come to Him?
• Yet we are told to “Come unto Me”.
• The loving invitation.
all ye that labour
• it is those that labour that need the invitation
• the workaholic
• the single parent who works two jobs to survive
• the tired
• the lonely
• the leaders
• men who labour; women who labour;
• youth who labour; children who labour
• labour without the Lord is heavy
• labour without rest.
• One job, two jobs, three jobs.

• Trying to make ends meet…
and are heavy laden
• emotional baggage
• physical burdens
• financial debt
• stressed out
• tension in the body
• rage, about to explode
• irritations, always on the brink
• mental bondage
• addictions
• desires, uncontrollable
• position and competition
• health issues
• material possessions
• relationship challenges
and I will give you rest.
• I will – this is certain. No question about it.
• Give you rest – Jesus/Yeshua gives us rest.
• The question is – will we receive it?
• How do we receive anything?
• We stretch forth our hands, grasp the object, pull it to ourselves and say
“Thank you”.
• Then it becomes ours.
• We can receive from God by faith in our hearts, and positive confession.
• Believe in our hearts, and confess with our mouths.
• Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus/Yeshua, and shalt believe
in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Rom 10:10 For
with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto
salvation.
• What is our normal confession? What are we saying?
Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall
find rest unto your souls.

Take my yoke upon you
• we are called to take the yoke of Jesus/Yeshua upon us.
• Yoke of His commandments.
• Yoke of His Word, His direction, His Will.
• What is a yoke?
• The Oxford Dictionary says that “It is a wooden crosspiece fastened over the
necks of two oxen etc. And attached to the plough or wagon to be drawn.”
• to put a yoke on means to “couple or unite” (a pair).
• Jesus/Yeshua never forces His yoke upon us. He wants us to willingly take
it.
• He invites us to take it.
• What does it mean to take His yoke upon us?
• It means like the two oxen who have a yoke, we are to be “yoked” with
Jesus/Yeshua so that where He is, we are.
• It is the same way Jesus/Yeshua operated with His Father.
• He went where the Father told Him to go.
• He did what the Father told Him to do.
• He even went to the cross, because it was the Father’s will.
• Joh 10:30 I and my Father are one. (He was yoked together with the Father).
• Joh 10:37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. Joh 10:38 But if I do,
though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is
in me, and I in him.
• How can we do what Jesus/Yeshua wants us to do, and not be yoked with
Him?
• How can we be yoked with Him, and not do what He asks us to do?
• We cannot make our plans and then ask Him to bless them.
• We seek His plan, and follow it.
• We cannot walk in the flesh, and expect a spiritual result.
• We have to listen to the Holy Spirit, and obey; then we will see the spiritual
blessing.
• We cannot let self sit on the throne of our lives, and fool ourselves that
Jesus/Yeshua is our Lord.
• This is what it means “thy kingdom come, thy will be done”. We are praying
for the government of God, the Lordship of Jesus/Yeshua in our hearts and
lives first, then for it to come on earth.
• We cannot pick and choose the scriptures we want to believe.
• We need to read the whole Bible in context and allow the Holy Spirit to
teach us, and reveal to us the Word of God.
• Many great preachers and pastors have said that they needed to “unlearn”
what they learned in seminary, in order to “learn” under the guidance of the
Holy Spirit, in the school of the Holy Spirit.
• 1Co 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but

which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 1Co 2:14 But the
natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him:
neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
• God’s thoughts are not our thoughts, neither are His ways our ways.
• Isa 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the
LORD. Isa 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your
ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
and learn of me
• the best way to teach your child is to be with them, do it first and then let
them do it while you watch, and guide them.
• We are the role model for our children.
• You can often tell, by observing the children, what the parents are like.
• If we need to learn from Jesus/Yeshua, we need to be with Him.
• We need to be aware of His presence, and His Word with us.
• The Holy Spirit is our teacher.
• Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my
name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I
have said unto you.
• What have we learnt from Him recently? What has He been saying to us?
• Can people tell that we have been with Jesus/Yeshua?
• Act 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were
unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had
been with Jesus/Yeshua.
for I am meek
• Many times we fear God. We think that He has a rod in Hands and He is
waiting to hit us over the head when we make a mistake.
• Jesus/Yeshua says that He is meek. Approachable.
• Meek – gentle in nature, humble and submissive. An attitude of meekness.
• He is not rough, angry, or out to get someone.
• Meekness is also “teachable”. Ready to be guided.
• We are able to entreat someone like this.
• Scripture says the “meek shall inherit the world”.
• Mat 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
and lowly in heart
• I believe that He is able to identify and reach out to the poor.
• Many people run from the poor.
• They do not want to know them, or associate with them.
• They are scared that they will be asked for money.

• Jesus/Yeshua reached out to people of low esteem.
• He has been there – nowhere to lay His head.
• He was mocked, spat upon, beaten, bullied, crowned with thorns, crucified.
• He said it is the sick that need a physician.
• He associated with the tax-collectors, the Samaritans, the drunks and
gluttons, and He loved them.
• He wanted them to know His love for them.
and ye shall find
• this is a positive statement.
• “You shall find”
• There is no maybe, perhaps, about it.
• When we come to Jesus/Yeshua, we need to be confident that He will come
through for us.
• He loves each one of us as a dear child.
• He wants what is best for us – not what we think is best for us.
• He looks at the big picture – our futures, our characters, motives and
intentions, our attitudes – and puts us in learning situations.
• Always ask the Lord “What can I learn from this situation?
rest for your souls
• Rest.
• Just the word is like cool water to a parched throat.
• Peace of mind
• Emotional peace.
• The will settled in its course.
• The body calm and refreshed.
• Jesus/Yeshua says we will find Rest.
• The Sabbath rest; observed in faith.
• Heb 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. Heb 4:10 For he that is
entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Heb 4:11
Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of
unbelief.
Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
For my yoke is easy,
• Jesus/Yeshua says that His yoke is easy.
• His yoke is not heavy or cumbersome.
• It does restrain.
• We have to yield under the yoke, to do His will.
• We have to trust and obey, as we are yoked.

• When we are yoked to Him, we are close to Him, so we will hear His voice.
• Grumbling, murmuring and complaining will not cut it.
• Surrendering, taking our flesh to the cross, dying to self is the way.
• His yoke is easy. But we have to yield.
• Are we under His yoke? Do we find it easy?
and my burden is light.
• His burden is light.
• What is His burden?
• A burden for lost souls. He is not willing that any should perish. (John 3:16)
• Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Joh 3:17 For God sent not his
Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. Joh
3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned
already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
• A burden to reconcile people to God. He gave us the ministry of
reconciliation.
• 2Co 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus/Yeshua
Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
• A burden for His Commissioning.
• Mar 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel
to every creature. Mar 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that
believeth not shall be damned. Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my
name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; Mar 16:18 They shall take
up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on
the sick, and they shall recover.
• A burden to seek the Kingdom of God first.
• Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things
shall be added unto you.
• He will give us a reward.
• 1Co 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the
heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
• He will never leave us, nor forsake us.
• Heb 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as
ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
• He instructs us, and teaches us, and guides us with His eye.
• Psa 32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee
with mine eye.
